Selecting the right yarn starts with considering how a finished piece will be used, worn, and cared for. Fibre type, weight, and structure all influence the feel, durability, and drape of a project.
Natural fibres each behave differently. Some offer elasticity and memory, making them well suited to garments and fitted accessories, while others provide drape or breathability that works best for shawls, layers, or home pieces. Blends can balance these qualities, offering versatility across a wider range of projects.
Yarn weight and construction affect stitch definition and fabric density. A tightly spun yarn will highlight texture and pattern, while a softer or loftier yarn creates a more relaxed fabric. Colour and dye style also play a role — solids emphasize structure, while tonal or variegated yarns introduce movement.
