Araucania Huasco Sock Prism Paints is a luminous, hand-dyed merino sock yarn designed to let color unfold naturally, stitch by stitch. A vibrant variation of the classic Huasco Sock, Prism Paints plays with light and saturation to create flowing, prismatic color movement rather than harsh striping.

Spun from 75% Superwash Merino wool and 25% polyamide, this super fine-weight yarn offers a soft hand with the durability needed for everyday wear. Each 100 g skein provides an impressive meterage of 395 meters, making it an excellent choice for socks, shawls, lightweight garments, and accessories where color and drape matter.

Painterly and expressive without overwhelming the fabric, Prism Paints is ideal for knitters who enjoy watching color evolve organically across their work. Whether used on its own or paired with a companion yarn, it brings depth, movement, and quiet drama to finished pieces.

Choosing the Right Yarn

Selecting the right yarn starts with considering how a finished piece will be used, worn, and cared for. Fibre type, weight, and structure all influence the feel, durability, and drape of a project.

Natural fibres each behave differently. Some offer elasticity and memory, making them well suited to garments and fitted accessories, while others provide drape or breathability that works best for shawls, layers, or home pieces. Blends can balance these qualities, offering versatility across a wider range of projects.

Yarn weight and construction affect stitch definition and fabric density. A tightly spun yarn will highlight texture and pattern, while a softer or loftier yarn creates a more relaxed fabric. Colour and dye style also play a role — solids emphasize structure, while tonal or variegated yarns introduce movement.

We recommend choosing yarn with both the project and the finished fabric in mind, rather than focusing solely on fibre content or appearance in the skein.

If you’re unsure which yarn best suits your project, we’re always happy to help you think through the options.
